Why can it be used to detect cancer?
A lesion occurs in the cervix.
Inside the lesions, there are cells that become malignant and others that do not.
Malignant cells, and those in the process of becoming malignant, produce biomakers, which means cytoplasm from the cells make its way into the blood stream.
The greater the number of malignant cells, the greatrer the amount of protein that finds its way into the bloodstream. We measure the concentration corresponding to high-grade lesions or cancer through a rapid lateral flow test.
